Granit Stark White portion snus by Fiedler & Lundgren, reviewing F&L’s newest strong snus!

New for 2012: Granit Strong White Portion Welcome back fellow snus lovers!

As I sit here in my office at the lavishly decorated Snustopian Embassy here at SnusCENTRAL; well, actually it’s the WC in Larry’s office and by lavishly decorated I mean there’s little soaps shaped like Moe UNZ’s head and a few clean towels, trying to decide on which snus we should review this week.

I found an old can of Granit Maxi portion in my desk from about 2 years ago. I asked Larry if F&L still made this snus and, to my surprise, they do but he also told me that Granit came out with a Strong White portion just before I came back to SnusCENTRAL and wondered if I would like to review it.

Since I really do like White portion snus and it’s been a long time since I’ve had Granit, I said “Brilliant! I was looking for something new to review here and I think that’s the one!” After a long reviewing process and quite a few cans of Granit Stark White, I think we can now start our review of Granit Stark White portion by Fiedler & Lundgren.

Like I said snus lovers, it’s been over 2 years since I’ve used any of F&L’s products and I think this is a good thing really, as reviewing goes. Granit Stark white portion snus was released in May of 2012 and manufactured by Fiedler & Lundgren in Malmö, Sweden.

Granit Stark White is classified as a White type portion which, for you new snus lovers, is a portion that does not get a final wetting prior to being packaged. By omitting this step, the portion material stays dry and white and the flavor tends to take a bit longer to materialize, unlike Original type snus.

The portion material is made from the same, soft teabag type material that is used in most snus manufacturing and, even though it does not get the additional wetting, is soft and comfortable in the lip with no irritation even after 2 hours! Each can of Granit Stark White contains 24 portions with just under one gram of snus in each.

The Nicotine content in Granit Stark White is stated as 15 mg per portion but, here’s where it can get a bit sticky. Even though it is said that the Nicotine content is 15 mg per gram, the kick you get from it is quite tame as far as Strong snus goes. So, for you beginning snus lovers out there don’t be scared off by this. Just thought I should put that out there!

Overall, I’ve kept a portion in the upper lip for over two hours and noticed no irritation whatsoever. The strength, to me anyway, is pretty tame compared to the other strong snus brands out there meaning, it didn’t really blow my mind, just helped to clear it a bit! OK on to the can!

“Snus Guy…….remember, no OCD on the can! We want to hear about the snus!” I know, I know but the Granit Stark White can is pretty cool!

Granit Stark White’s can is really unique from it’s counterparts. The can is molded white and has rounded corners for easy removal from the front or back pocket. The catch lid and compartment are unique as well with a small, finger sized divot on the main lid for getting the catch lid off easily.

The main lid its self sits nice and tight and almost makes an airtight seal to keep the snus moist while it’s being used. Finally, the label is made from a thin plastic that keeps the can sealed until you open it for the first time. OK, enough about the can; let’s get into the flavor!

Granit Stark White has a pretty unique flavor from other standard flavored Swedish snus. While most standard flavored (and by standard flavored I mean a snus that has no flavor labeled “Wintergreen” or “Vanilla” or “Licorice”) tend to be primarily smoky tobacco flavored with salt, Granit Stark White is much more complex.

Most descriptions have Granit Stark White portion as having a pure taste of tobacco and that’s pretty much it. But, there really is more to this snus. What I taste is the earthy, peaty taste of tobaccos from around the globe, a good mix of saltiness but there are two other flavors that I taste that I think really make this snus unique.

“Hey Snus Guy, you going to keep these a secret or tells us!” Like I said in the last paragraph, Granit Strong White has a unique flavor for one that’s labeled as being just tobacco flavored. The two flavors I taste in Granit Stark White are citrus and a hint of sweet licorice!

While most Swedish snus had a citrus flavor of some sort and is to be expected by either tasting it or smelling it, Licorice flavoring tends to be a main flavoring in Swedish snus, not a complimentary one.

The Licorice flavoring in Granit Stark White is faint and really works with the saltiness of this snus. It actually helps the tobacco flavor to come through and works to cut through the salt.

As for the citrus, it can be smelled in the can but is really light in the snus. Overall, Granit Stark White’s flavor can only be described as a snus with the flavors of fine tobaccos accented with a light, salty sweet licorice background and a hint of citrus.

The flavor lasts pretty long as well! I’ve had the flavor of Granit Stark White last for over an hour and a half before the flavor went a bit bitter. While this is what I taste, I’ll let you be the judge!

So, what drinks would go well with Granit Stark White portion snus? Let’s take a look!

As I told you guys in the review of Göteborgs Rapé Lime, I’ve become a bit of a tea snob and have really cut back on Diet Coke and Monster Energy Drinks. Knowing this, I’ve tried quite a few Iced Teas with Granit Stark White and have found a few favorites that go well. Iced Earl Grey goes really well with Granit Stark White! The bergamot in the tea helps to bring out the citrus in the snus and mute the saltiness a bit.

Green Iced tea also goes well since the tea’s grassy flavors go well with the tobacco. As for adult beverages, I’ve had a few snus lovers tell me that Wheat beers go well with Granit Stark White. Since these beers tend to be on the sweet side, the saltiness of the snus helps to cut through it.

Others have said that Stout beers like Guinness are great with it. While these are my recommendations, I’ll let you decide!

My overall recommendation for Granit Stark White portion snus, snus lovers, is this; Even though Granit Stark White is a Strong portion snus with 15 mg of Nicotine, it’s not a strong snus like some of the Extra Stark snus brands out there. Knowing this, Granit Stark White would be a great portion snus for the new snus lover who wants to try out Strong snus due to the flavor being of a true Swedish snus and the Nicotine isn’t mind blowingly strong. Experienced snus lovers who use a lot of Extra Strong snus will find that Granit Stark White’s unique flavor and lighter Nicotine hit could be great for relaxing between dinner and bed.
