General Classic White Mint Snus

I know every other blogger in Snusland is covering this one as well, and even though my palate isn’t as refined as others ( or at least I can’t express it as well) I thought I’d add my thoughts on General Classic White Mint Snus as well…..

As pretty much everyone knows I am not a mint snus fan. In fact I dislike almost all minty snus. Peppermint, spearmint and wintergreen should, in my mind, not be flavors of snus. Chewing gum and breath mints sure, but not tobacco.

I know they are popular, with Americans and the ladies (I was going to say girls, but I don’t want to be accused of encouraging underage tobacco use) but not for me. I don’t even like original Skoal.

I was accused of not being a real man in my teen years because I used Copenhagen and not Skoal like the tough kids did. Whatever.

Having said all that this new addition to the General family is good snus. The scent in the can is much like a York peppermint patty with Earl Grey tea brewing nearby. I’ve never found chocolate flavor in Ettan, but I smell it in General Classic White Mint. Since a couple of my respected snus blog fellows mentioned chocolate also I don’t feel so odd.

Swedish Match describes the flavor as “A medium-bodied and spicy tobacco taste with notes of peppermint, along with hints of bergamot, tea and vanilla.” They say it is a new recipe. I have no reason to doubt them.

Unlike That Snus Guy I missed the Catch Vanilla so I can’t compare the two. I do know it is nothing like any other mint snus I’ve tried. The peppermint is front and center, the vanilla makes it presence known.

The peppery spice and bergamot is there but in the background. In fact I smell the bergamot more than taste it.  There is a bit of burn from the mint, but not to an uncomfortable level.

All in all this is a very well behaved snus. No, I won’t be buying rolls of it for myself, Mrs. Hellwig on the other hand, has already told me I need to order some for her.  I do see this as a good snus to keep handy for a treat after a big spicy meal or when out for an evening in circumstances when I need nicotine but yet nice minty breath.

Overall General Classic Mint White Portion Snus is a great addition to the General family. If you like mint snus grab a roll, if you like vanilla grab a few cans and if you’re planning on entertaining for the holidays you might want to make sure you have a couple cans handy.

For those of you waiting with bated breath for my review of Kardus Cincho, it will be another week or so as I am still getting to know it. I will say right now if it’s within your budget grab a box and you will enjoy it; if you can find any left for sale, that is.
